Rusell Sinclair & The Smokin’ Locos
We are delighted to have Russell Sinclair and his incredible band perform on the festival’s outdoor performance stage on Saturday 25 May from 2.30pm.
Russell is a well-deserved star of the South West blues scene.
Russell Sinclair and The Smokin’ Locos are based in Plymouth, where they have several residencies, they regularly appear at music venues throughout Devon and Cornwall and the South West, as well at various music festivals through the country.
Following a recent extraordinarily successful European tour, they have already been booked to return there later in the year. They also appear regularly at Bristol’s famous ‘Old Duke.’
Singer and leader Russell Sinclair is an immense guitar talent with a deep knowledge and understanding of blues music.
All too often when a band are performing on stage it is the lead singer, the singer that gets all the attention and this is unavoidable and understandable up to a point in the circumstances.
However, the sound you hear is a combination of inputs from a variety of musicians all on stage at the same time and all performing for your entertainment.
I would like to take some time here to outline the philosophy behind my backing band The Smokin’ Locos and to introduce you to the main protagonists.
The first thing you might have noticed if you have ever caught a live show involving the full band is that the lineup changes quite frequently – both the faces behind the instruments and the nature and number of the instruments themselves.
That is partly deliberate and partly due simply to availability of personnel at the time.
From time to time, I will switch additional instruments in if the music benefits from it and at such times you will see the numbers in the band grow for a while.
In that way we try and keep things fresh and alive by introducing new sounds and people with ideas.
